Setting goals for the new year is always a tradition that are automatically made when we celebrate the end of the old year. We focus on future plans, give ourselves a lot of motivation to be more healthy and we often have some personal wishes as well. Unfortunately it’s not always so easy to stick to these health and work-out resolutions. Therefore we’ve asked one of our writers and Personal Trainer, Nasrien Cnops, to share her best tips with you.

One month ago we all started the year full of New Year’s resolutions. Resolutions we were destined to fulfill this year. I also started the year with positive vibes and a lot of energy. Eating healthy, drinking more water, taking care of myself and try to ignore what people say about me, are added to my resolutions list too. But the most important one is also the most difficult one: exercise at least 30 minutes every day. But how is it possible to integrate those 30 minutes in the rollercoaster of daily life?

The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen

Pin your exercise moments in your agenda

Look at your exercise as an important meeting, there is no way to postpone it. Look at is as ‘me-time’, because everyone needs time to invest in themselves. Exercising is important for body and mind. It’s not just because you made it part of your New Year’s resolutions. You have to realise that YOU are the one that plans your agenda. So no excuses!

Exercise with your friend or partner

Socializing in combination with exercising is a perfect fit. Afterwards you can always treat yourself with a healthy beverage or snack. But if you prefer a wine, we will count that as a healthy break too. And do you have a little one walking around? Then take the stroller and let’s have a healthy break together! Ps: there are now even amazing mom-meetings to work out together. You will love it!

Do a home-workout

If you don’t have the time to go to the gym or yoga lesson, don’t try to find an excuse: YouTube is FULL of workouts for beginners, the average athletes or the pro’s. You will find workouts of 5 minutes, but you can do more than that! 30 minutes is the bare minimum. What` with the kids? They’ll gladly participate!

Try something new and exciting

Are you sick of staring at the walls of the gym? Is it too cold to go for a run? Is the swimming pool too wet? Don’t worry, just try something completely new! Try to find something exiting and maybe you’ll find a new passion. Go to a dancing lesson or maybe a boxing class. Play soccer with your nephew or try something like pole dancing. Even aqua pole is a possibility and will give you a lot of strength!

It’s all about you

This last tip to stick to your New Year’s resolutions is the best one. Exercising is a broad term, so it doesn’t matter how you do it. Clean your house, cut the grass, take the stairs more often, run or take your bike to go to the local bakery, walk your dogs, or the one’s from your neighbor. They will be thankful, the dogs will love it and who knows, maybe you will find some peaceful spots a long the way. Hello Instagram-proof nature!
