
When we exercise a lot or have an active lifestyle, we need a healthy dose of hydration. But water can sometimes be monotonous, and that’s when another drink is welcome. But which drink is a good replacement for water or addition to an athletic diet or lifestyle?
If you exercise a lot then you need to equalize your fluid intake. Normally we should drink between 2 to 3 liters of water a day. If you exercise a lot (and therefore lose a lot of fluids), you need to make sure you hydrate yourself adequately. And that doesn’t always have to be just with water. These drinks are a perfect replacement or supplement:
Green tea
Green tea is helps keep your body’s vitality intact and may even help with blood sugar regulation and metabolism. It contains antioxidants that help protect against free radicals and play a role in slowing the aging process.
Green tea contains a lower dose of caffeine than coffee. As a result, it gives you enough energy to push through a more intense workout without side effects such as jitters or headaches.
Kombucha
Kombucha is a fermented beverage. It is made from water, tea, sugar, bacteria and yeast. It is naturally full of probiotics, which help restore the balance of friendly bacteria in your gut. Thanks to drinking kombucha, you get healthy microbes that support your digestion and overall gut health.
Kombucha also contains B vitamins and Iron. The iron will increase oxygen flow around the body, helping you refuel after your workout and stay energized!
Smoothie
A smoothie is a perfect meal replacement that is packed with nutrients. Usually a carbohydrate such as milk, yogurt, whey protein or cottage cheese is added. You can make a smoothie with any of your favorite fruits or vegetables.
Smoothies are a good source of protein and fiber and provides a feeling of fullness that makes you snack less. Which is perfect after an intense workout to initiate muscle recovery.
Coconut Water
Coconut water is a popular post-workout hydration option with a sweet, nutty flavor. In addition, it is packed with electrolytes such as potassium, sodium and magnesium that help maintain fluid balance.
Coconut water also delivers vitamins that aid in recovery, including C and B vitamins. Vitamin C boosts your immune system; folate (B9) helps your body create new cells; and vitamin B6 helps build muscle by producing amino acids.
